I love Mrs. D. My son loves Mrs D, too. Mrs. D loves teaching. And today, I watched Mrs. D take a test -- well, not exactly. . . Mrs. D's task was to adminster an exam to her second graders. It was much like California's STAR exam, except that Mrs. D was not allowed to do one important thing on this exam. She was not allowed to read the instructions to the class. Thankfully, Mrs. D's class reads at an elevated level. Her students show up fed, well-rested and relieved to be away from their helicopter parents who hound them on their academics at every waking moment. But here's where observation really opened my eyes. Mrs. D isn't done with this test. She has three more after this one, and this one takes about three days. So when exactly, does Mrs. D teach? Ever heard the phrase, "the cure is worse than the disease?" Last Updated (Tuesday, 27 July 2010 06:53) |
Advanced Placement (AP) Results for Bay Area Schools
In response to a question on the forum, the California Department of Education (CDE) does publish information on Advanced Placement testing by school. It is not as detailed as many of their other testing statistics, but it does help to paint a picture of which schools are more college preparatory than others. The original datasets can be found at: http://www.cde.ca.gov/ds/sp/ai/ The latest data are for the 2006-2007 school year. I've sorted the information just for the Bay Area and added the city information too. Here's a link to the 6-page PDF file, and to the XLS summary.
